Filipino Halloween Fun Facts

Other than Christmas and New Year’s, Halloween may rank among the most eagerly awaited festivals in the Philippines. It’s that time of year when we visit the graves of our departed loved ones, get together with the rest of the clan, dress up for Halloween, go trick-or-treating, swap spooky tales, go to Halloween festivities, and so much more!

Most traditional Filipino families used to use this time to visit their ancestors’ graves in the province, light candles, and pray before spending the remaining days visiting with other family members. But thanks to a little Western influence, Filipinos are also embracing the custom of making Halloween into a pleasant holiday with parties and other celebrations.

If this is your first Halloween in the Philippines, you gotta check this out!

  1. A week before Halloween,
Filipinos enjoy prolonging their festivities because our Halloween holidays are anticipated. We spend the week getting ready for our eagerly anticipated family reunion.
  2. A week-long family gathering
On Halloween, we go to the graves of our departed loved ones to say goodbye to the rest of the family and remember their lives.
  3. Halloween is not just for the dead.
Halloween in the Philippines is not just about ghosts. Filipino folklore regarding aswang, tikbalang, manananggal and many other topics is also available.
  4. Filipinos do not do Trick or Treat
Some of us do, but only in a small number of homes. The lack of widespread candy and chocolate distribution among Filipinos prevents us from making unnecessary purchases.
  5. The gatherings for Halloween are family picnics.
Filipinos enjoy eating at all times. Additionally, as Halloween parties are essentially family reunions, food should always be served. Family members assemble around the gravestones in cemeteries to pass out trays and baskets of cooked food.
  6. Feed the deceased
Filipinos frequently visit the graves of their loved ones with candles, flowers, and even food. In the hope that they will be able to consume it on the other side, they frequently bring the food that the deceased loved.
  7. You’ll receive visits from souls.
The elders of the Philippines have the view that if you do not visit the graves of your departed loved ones, they will instead come to you.
  8. Business Event
Unlike some overseas firms, which host their houses, Halloween parties are typically hosted by businesses in the Philippines. The majority of these parties are organized by BPO companies.
  9. Candles sell the fastest
Particularly on All Saints Day, candles, which are seen to be more beneficial in praying for the deceased, are the most popular item. It just refers to a simple tradition with no religious connotations.

As bizarre as it may sound, the Philippines has a very distinctive style of celebrating every holiday, not just Halloween. However, just because we do something a certain way doesn’t make it any less enjoyable!

In addition to these rituals and traditions, Filipinos also enjoy horror films, and Halloween is the ideal time for that. Additionally, a lot of frightful activities are available all around the Philippines because Filipinos enjoy frightening encounters. But if you enjoy being horrified to the core, you should check out these spooky activities.

In addition, Filipinos enjoy dressing up as different people for a single festivity. Halloween parties have thus become a tradition in most workplaces, especially outsourcing firms in the Philippines, that everyone looks forward to each year.
