Long Weekend For The Islamic New Year

Just a few days remain until the Islamic New Year, also known as the Hijri New Year, and nations have already begun to announce extended weekends. The public and private sectors will enjoy three or even four-day long weekends, according to governments from the UAE to Oman.

Here is a glance at the holidays that have been proclaimed in certain Middle Eastern nations now that the Hijri New Year’s date is known.

Nations including Kuwait, Oman, and the United Arab Emirates have declared three- and four-day weekends. According to research by Oil & Gas Middle East, this has been accomplished for both the public and private sectors. For those who don’t know, the Hijri New Year, which commemorates the beginning of a new lunar year, is another name for the Islamic New Year.

In actuality, the majority of Muslims consider the first day of the month of Muharram to be the start of the New Islamic Year.

UAE has declared a holiday on July 21, a Friday, of the prolonged long weekends. As a result, the nation will enjoy a three-day weekend before the month comes to a close. In a similar vein, the Centre for Government Communication in Kuwait decided that July 19, Wednesday, would be a holiday for Hijri New Year and that July 20, Thursday, would be a day of rest. It’s important to note that Friday and Saturday are regular weekends in the nation, which means that work will resume on Sunday, July 23, after the weekend.

For the purpose of ringing in the new year, Oman has designated July 20 to be a national holiday applicable to private and public sector workers.

United Arab Emirates

The UAE’s media agency stated in November of last year that the Islamic New Year holiday would be observed on Friday, July 21.

It indicates that before the month is up, residents of the United Arab Emirates can anticipate another three-day weekend.

Kuwait

Dates for the next Islamic New Year holiday have been made public by Kuwait. On social media, the Centre for Government Communication posted information about the Council of Ministers’ decision about holiday dates.

The Hijri New Year holiday is on Wednesday, July 19, and the next day, Thursday, July 20, has been designated as a day of relaxation.

Since Friday and Saturday make up a regular weekend in the nation, all government departments, agencies, and institutions will enjoy a four-day weekend.

On Sunday, July 23, work will start up again.

A new lunar year officially begins on the Islamic New Year, also called the Hijri New Year. Most Muslims mark the first day of the month of Muharram as the start of the Islamic year.

Oman

To honor the Hijri New Year 1445, Oman has proclaimed Thursday, July 20, 2023, a holiday. Employees in the public and private sectors will both be able to take the holiday.

Thursday, which corresponds to July 20, will be an official holiday for workers in both the public and private sectors in remembrance of the anniversary of the Prophet’s honorable migration and the start of the new Hijri year 1445, according to a statement from the Oman News Agency (ONA).
